Includes photocopies of the map, field notes, and affidavit from the 1826 survey of Timothy Cortelyou's (1774-1829) land in New Utrecht, Brooklyn; four property conveyances for land in Brooklyn, 1706-1878; a receipt, a military discharge paper, and the treasurer's report from the Brooklyn Female Academy, 1848. In notebook, 1698-1824, are entries of surveying problems, birth records for the family of Isaac and Altie Cortelyou, a list of New Utrecht property holders in 1706, a 1698 census list, and a record of slave births, 1796-1811; nearly all entries are in Dutch. Also included is correspondence, 1846-1881, from P.L. Cortelyou to his father and letters from Cortelyou family members to Teunis G. Bergen as well as genealogical notes and a few legal documents.

The Packer Collegiate Institute was incorporated in 1845 as the Brooklyn Female Academy, an institution devoted solely to female education. The Academy opened in 1846 in a building on Joralemon Street between Court and Clinton Streets in the present-day neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights.
